Wellington's loss of trade-with tie West Coast of the South .Island was discussed by Mr. J. Myers ;at a meeting of i the Chamber of Commerce yesterday.. He said that for many years tho trade of the West Coast had been carried oh with Wellington,: and the : council of the chamber had considered 'the v question > of v how that trade might be affected by the opohing of the Otira Tunnel. •• Ylt was realised that Wellington must lose ::&} little trade, but a: great deal could be maintained, as the ; railways : had : never , yet! been known to compete' with steamer traffic,; as far, at least, as certain goods were concerned. ;■;■ .-;:• :.;.'
