The appeal to the citizens of Auckland for the £50,000 to complete the sum of £200,000 required to cover the cost of the war memorial museum, is to be made next month. The personal canvass, by which the amount of £160,000 was assured, has been continued in the past few weeks with considerable activity, and the honorary treasurer, Mr, V. J. For tho most part, the sums making up this amount were payable within tho next 12 months.
- it was stated by the Mayor, Mr. J. No time was being lost, and they were hoping to. let the tender for tho work about April or May next. In connection with the appeal to the public, Mr. Gunson said that all organisations, such as the Victoria and Navy Leagues and local bodies, were to be asked to co-operate with tho committee, which had under consideration a proposal to erect the cenotaph at a suitable point, in tho city. It was suggested that the activities in connection with the collection ■of the- £50,000 should be centred here, and. it was proposed to ask the various organisations each to take charge of the campaign for a day, the whole appeal extending over a week or ten days.
