Sir Frederick Treves, the famous phyei cian, supporting the theory of Dr. Copeman, who told the British Association that cancer could be alleviated by dieting, says that it is noteworthy that the increase in the incidence of cancer in recent years coincides exactly with the introduction of. preserved foods, com. eistrated extracts, cold fitorago supplies, tinned meats and fish, and other foods containing preservatives.'"', Sir Frederick says that the coincidence is possibly accidental, but that it is the most conspicuous feature of • the problem, and demands thorough research.' ' '• * The ' prospects of conquering typhus and typhoid 70 years ago seemed hopeless, yet through simple means typhus has been eradicated and typhoid is under control. That' such will doubtless be the case with cancer is the ray of hope in the annual report of the Ministry of Health, which urgently appeals for continued and persistent .investigation. Statistics show that cancer has; increased throughout the •: world, and iB one of the six principal "- killing diseases." It is definitely, and uniformly spreading.',A; ; .
