SIR L. NEWTON ELECTED. A. and N.Z. " LONDON. Sept. 30. Sir Louis Newton has* been elected Lord Mayor of London, in succession to Sir John Baddeley. ' ;, Sir Louis Arthur Newton, who has been an alderman since 1916, is 56 years of ,-age, and was born in London though he is oil Cheshire descent. ~ He became a member of the City Corporation in 1905, and was senior sheriff in 1916-17- Sir Louis, who was knighted in -1917, 13 senior grand deacon of the Grand Lodgo of England Ancient Order of Freemasons. He is' Governor of tho Royal Hospitals. He is a notable golf player, and is also $ tennis enthusiast. _ ♦■ r *
