Questioned by the police, he said the child was his daughter, and that with lour other i members of the family,, she was fitting 'at the table. The dead girl and her sisters . were.': squabbling- and - throwing bread at one another. "- • -"• • Further questioned as to who had thrown the knife, Medlicott : said, I don't know. It might have been myself. , It was the knife I was using for my tea. The police went to the accused s home in Richmond South, and found the knife, which was an ordinary table; knife. They were: told he had thrown it : Medlicott said he had only two drinks that day. Accused was remanded for seven days. : When bail i was mentioned, ; Inspector McConville liaid: "It is only 'fair ;T should tell Your Worships that there is; a lot more 66 come out yet, and. the appearance of the case will differ from that of this morning. : 1 object :.; to; bail being granted.*' "> " y An appeal was made by accused s solicitor, who said Medlicott wished to attend his daughter's funeral.' : - • • -' Bail was granted in the sum of £500. ; During the proceedings Medlicott wept bitterly. # ,■• - A postmortem examination disclosed the fact that : the knife had been thrown. with considerable forte, as it had , penetrated three garments, and, after passing between the ribs, had pierced the heart.
