A REMARKABLE CASE.

For some time Mr. W. Roper, of Tenterfield, New South Wales, had in his possession a - carpet snake 10ft. long and about Bin. in circumference at its greatest girth. Recently ho put a rat, which was about 9in. long from nosfl to tip of tail, into the box wiith this stake to provide a meal for the latter. However, the rat was evidently the hungrier of the two, for, during the darkness, he bit the snake to ribbons. y " When Mr. Roper went in to sew.' his reptile pet in the morning it was dead, and the rat was dancing upon the body; of his enemy.
