LONG-LIVED UMBRELLAS.
ONE USED FOR 53 YEARS. . LONDON. Aug. 04. A. Civil servant in Whitehall daily uses an umbrella, which was presented to him on his wedding-day, 53 years ago. The Daily News has asked if any of its readers can eclipse this record. Responses show that it is rot so easy to lose an' umbrella as is generally imagined. A woman residing at Godalming possesses an umbrella which she had 41 years ago. ♦ " I bought it some years before my marriage." she says, "and now I am a grandmother, 1 have lost it several times, but always, got it back. I have had it re-clothed three times, and also had a new ferule' attached. No wire has been broken." Several readers possess umbrellas which j they bought 30 years ago.
