STRANDING OF THE RONA.
SALVAGE CLAIM SETTLED.
AGREEMENT BETWEEN PARTIES.
The claim for £600 for salvage services alleged, to have been rendered .to the steamer Rona, at the time of her mishap at Flat Rock, in June, 1922, came again before Mr: Justice Herdman in the Supreme Court yesterday, and it was announced that a settlement had been arrived at. • -• '
The plaintiff, Charle3 Ernest Hood (Mr, Bagnall), master mariner, based his claim upon the advice and assistance -he contended 'he had given Captain: Wallis, master of the Rona, in regard to salvage of cargo and the refloating of the ship. The defendants, the Colonial Sugar Refining Company (Mr. Meredith and Mr. Hore), owners of the Rona, submitted that plaintiff had acted purely in the capacity of a cargo surveyor. Further, Captain Wallis had acted upon his own initiative and judgment, and had not sought help from, plaintiff. . The sum of £31 JOs had been paid into Court, and defendants submitted that this was sufficient remuneration for plaintiff's services. His Honor ordered the case to be struck out.
