RUNNING ILLICIT LIQUOR.
KiiNG COUNTRY BOUNDARY. HAWAIIAN CAUGHT IN ACT. [Br TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE AWAMUTU. Monday. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, before Mr. F. W. Platts. S.M., a Hawaiian named T. Leapai, was charged with having liquor in his possession for illicit s.ile; also with refusing to give his correct mime when demanded by the police. Constable Doyle stated that on July 11 ho arrested accused at the King Country boundary in a motor-car, which contained a quantity of liquor. Counsel for the accused led evidence to show that accused was conducting a cabaret in Te Kuiti,, and found it necessary to provide liquor for entertaining his friends. It was, contended the liquor was a : free gift and not for sale. ; The magistrate convicted Leapai and fined him £25, with costs. V • I
