''■;■ ; The continued activity of burglars in Wellington is occupying the attention of the detective department. During the week-end thieves entered the departmental store of James Smith, Ltd., Manners Street, removing a large quantity of valuable material. The intruders showed almost meticulous care in the selection of goods, and did not burden them- ; solves with anything not of considerable value. Their attention was devoted to high-class material, such as silk and crepe de chine, many rolls of which had disappeared before the premises were opened for business this morning. ' Preference was shown by the thieves for gloves, which were removed in fairly large quantities. In this latter respect, the burglars showed they were by no means novicos. The actual value of the articles token is not yet definitely ascertained, but it is understood that the figure is in the vicinitv of £600.
Entrance to the building was gained through the window of the State Coal depot next door.
