STREET LIGHTING SYSTEM.
UNDERGROUND MAINS 'NEEDED.'
MOUNT EDEN RETICULATION. -.
The Auckland Power Board met yesterday/ those .' present being ■ Mr." S., :J. Harbutt, acting-chairman, Messrs. J. Howe, J. Dempsey, S. I. Crookes, M. J. Bennett, L. Joll' H. Goldie, R. G. Clark, and ,T. Blood worth. '
The secretary reported that 111 overhead . services had been connected during the fortnight ended August 20, and poles had been erected at Mount Eden in View Road, Sherwood Avenue, Esplanade Road, Point Street, Victoria Avenue, and part of Valley and Bellevuo Roads. The erection of poles and cable in-Mary Street area, Mount Eden, had been completed. The engineer.- reported that after conferring with the, telegraph engineer, he had come to the conclusion that street lighting with overhead wires,' with the constant current series system, would be prohibitive and impossible.. The only way to carry this < out would* be. by underground mains, and it would be necessary to arrange quantities . and system accordingly. The Works Committee ' reported that finality had been reached on the question of radiator supply, ■ and a report would be • presented > when the O.rder-in-Council was received. , Petitions were received from residents of Green' Lane arid Point Chevalier, asking when reticulation of these districts would be completed. 'It was stated by the engineer .that about half of Green Lane was already reticulated, and work on the remainder was on the prgramme for earl completion. The ■ engineer was instructed 'to furnish /a report "to. the Works Committee., as .the probable date of completion.- , . ■ .*'■'.-.- . .
