WOMEN ACTUARIES.
Tlio distinction of being the first women to Become qualified actuaries and members of the Institute of Actuaries of Staple Inn has been won by Miss Gladys Gregory and Miss Dorothy Davis, both of London. They passed four examinations to qualify. It is only three years since.- membership was made open' to women. . *-' Miss Daviea who was educated at fho City of -London School for GirE and Newnham, is employed by the Guardian Assurance Company. With Miss Gregory, who is at the Prudential, she becjan studying for the examinations a. Jew days after they were opened""to wo-; men. The success of Miss Gregory is even more remarkable. Miss Davies had the advantage of three years at Cambridge, where she became entitled to the degree of M.A., but Miss' Gregory, after matriculating from Broomwood Koad Council School, had to earn her living as a teacher. After » short time she resigned and joined V the staff of the Prudential. Her leisure was given up to studying for Che exacting mathematical and law tests of the actuaries examinations. She was heartily congratulated by the manager of Che Prudential on her success.-
