A telegraph chess match of nine boards aside was played between Te Aroha and Thames Clubs. As this was the first occasion on which such a match had Uen--played locally, greetings word exchanged over the wires, the Mayoress despatching congratulations to, Thames on arranging the contest. ::•;■■'■■;" . .
