■..; : " ."• SUVA. July 24. Suva has now the machinery and most of the equipment for a very modern and efficient fire brigade. The Legislative Council has passed the Bill constituting the brigade. v" 4 The Municipal Council has erected a very fine building on Victoria Parade of the latest-design and the builidng would be a credit to any city.'. One of the mosi modern fire engines has been obtained, with ladder and gear, and. the new Act creates a board consisting of three representatives, one from the Municipal Council, one from the Government, and one elected by the insurance companies. , The Mayor will have a casting vote. ■ An expert captain is to be imported and the members of the brigade will be Europeans, as the half-castes and natives are not suited by temperament for the work. The members will be partially paid.
