A meeting of , the Tauranga Harbour Board was held to-day. ■' The clerk to the Telephone Committee at Katikati wrote regarding the proposed telephonic communication between Matakana Island and Katikati. Dyson, district engineer to the Public Works Department, wrote stating that he could not give, a definite reply to the board's query regarding prospective ■ . wharfage accommodation at Maunganui, as the matter is now being referred to the head office. It would, however, greatly' assist the department to make its arrangements if it could he definitely known by what date the Railway Wharf at Tauranga will be ' available. There wil] be considerable added cost to .the working of the line if the department is forced to run passengers to one station and goods to another. Mr. Dyson also stated that the department intends to move the board's office . along the present wharf. 'He stated that all the land between the railway line and the Strand is being taken for railway works, but no decision has yet been come to' with regard to any reclamation between the south of the Strand and Elizabeth Street. ;It had been arranged that the department would see that a low level road was built between the Strand and the railway station, on condition that; the Borough Council gives a certain portion of an endowment!)
