LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP. THE FINAL MATCH -TO-DAY. MRS. SLACK■;. MEETS MISS PAYTON. There was' another perfect day for the continuation of the ladies' golf 'champion-' ship at Middlemore yesterday. The links; were again in excellent condition, playing fast and '/true,/while ■ tho greens were especially' attractive and 'favourable for good golf. ; The principal attraction was the semifinals in the championship. Mrs. Slack i started badly 'in her round . with Mrs. j who played very steadily. v On the return round, however, Mrs. Slack improved, especially in her driving and long putts, and won the match, 4 up and 3 to play. The driving and mashie shots of Mrs. Marshall were good throughout. The match between Miss M. Payton and Mrs. Hodges was a well-contested One, and resulted in a win for Miss Payton by 3 up and 1. Miss Payton secured a lead, which she maintained all round, Mrs. Hodges having her first win at the seventh. She followed up by winning the eighth,.'and by winning tha ninth left Miss Payton 3up at the turn. Mrs. Hodges won: the tenth in 3 to 4, and at the fourteenth hole the match was dormy 4. \ The fifteenth and sixteenth were won by Mrs. Hodges, reducing her; opponent's lead to dormy : 2. ' By steady play, Miss Payton won the .seventeenth and the match, 3 up and 1./; Both ladies played good - golf, Mrs. Hodges excelling at the short holes, .but Miss Payton proving too steady at the longer one 3.
