ORPHANS' CLUB FORMED. TBX TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.} ; TE AWAMUTU, Wednesday, The newly formed Orphans' Club, hold its first social-evening last night. Mr. G. T. Robson presiding over a fair attendance. Musical Stems were contributed by Messrs. Walker, Whittington, Donald, Swarbrick and O-iphant. It was decided to hold a short session this year, owing to the late start. Officers were elected as follow: -—Patron, Mr. if. Lye, M.P.; president, Mr. G. T. Robson; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. A. A. Reese, F. L. G. Armstrong;, "and Walker; committee. Messrs. B. Clark, S. A. Enipson, Whittington, A.; E. Patterson, 8. S. . Preston, J. A. Hawkins and E. A. Donald; secretary, Mr. D. F. Mackay; treasurer, Mr. A. F. Walker; musical director, Mr. L, G. Hopper; auditor Mr.- D. Bockett. It was decided . to hold the next social on Tuesday next. At a well attended meeting of dairymen at Hairmi it was decided to support the candidature of Mr. Chas. Parker, p'raiient Dominion president of the Dairy Farmers' Union, for a vacancy on the directorate of the New Zealand Co-opera-tive' Dairy Company Limited. The meeting decided to also press for the principle of one man one vote at the annual meeting of that company, and that the share basis for butter-fat shares be reduced from 701b. per share to 1001b. Messrs. Monteliore and H. Mandeno were appointed to attend the company's annual meeting on be half ol the district shareholders. The borough council decided last night to continue prospecting for a suitable metal quarry on the Kawa Hills, in conjunction with the Waipa County Council, in the hope that supp'ies of first-class metal would be obtainable for all district requirements, at a lower cost than that imported from Tirohia and other quarries. The borough solicitor was instructed -to prepare draft by-laws requiring the following fees for heavy traffic: Vehicles, three to four tons, £15 ; four to five tons, £25; five to six tons, £50; six to eight tons, £75 ; eight to ten tons, £100* ...
