"A L STRIKING SUCCESS." .7? .. - '"j m '\ D LAY OF RESOURCES. ENCOURAGEMENT FOR FUTURE. The, president of •. the • Agricultural and Pastoral Assooiatiorf. Mr. E. D. McLennan, expressed - gratification yesterday at the/ striking /success/of the exhibition. The co-ordination of effort on the part of representatives . of the primary and secondary producers, ;He said, had 'achieved the happiest results. Such a welding of interests was necessary in •;promoting a metropolitan exhibition worthy ,of the province.. ' The '.alliance. was now > , thoroughly established and . all futuro winter exhibitions; he /' felt; sure, would ,11 be .< promoted jointly, by the Agricultural .; and Pastoral Association ■■ and the Industrial Association. ■ ' Referring to the features of the exhibition, ,/ Mr. . McLennan said he would like to have seen stronger competition •in the classes for/ primary products. The outstanding feature oil the field produce was its excellent j quality. The; roote on exhibition from the Rotorua district were worthy of special mention. There was a great future ■ before any . district / that could produce Such . crops. .The district courts this year, he said, were remarkably good :<• and • conveyed a fine ; idea, of the 'resources of the : districts : represented. Here again, in' furnishing / the courts, / the primary and secondary industries had contained to great advantage. ' In providing the courts the various' 5 districts had to undertake 'a vast amount of preparatory work, and much ; credit was, due ;to those who in; each / district had' achieved such fine results. Other features /that had contributed 'greatly.: to the success of the exhibition were the butter and •' cheese competitions , and the excellent exhibits of the/, Department of /Agriculture from the Ruakura State' Farm, the State / Forestry Service, the Samoan /products exhibited by the Department of Industries and Commerce and the unique collection of kauri gum, provided by . Mr. F. Q. •• Peat, cl Dargaville. • ' ..'As far as the ; industrial sidß of the exhibition was concerned, said Mr. McLennan, it was in every way representative of the manufacturing activities of the province., The industrial committee had worked extremely hard to make the exhibition a success and the manufacturers were :to be : heartily • congratulated on the generous response they had made to the committee's requests. The fine display in the secondary industries section? was c revelation to visitors.

In voicing > appreciation of all who had contributed to the . success of the , show, Mr. i McLennan said ; that although a number of the stewards had been, temporarily laid aside through illness; others bad carried on the work. Not a.'-, single complaint had been made regarding the organisation of the exhibition. He made special reference to the. assistance received from. the chairman and members of the Harbour' Board in granting the use of the wharf sheds and also <of ' the i assistance received from the .members of the staff." ■■ Dealing 'with the financial aspect. Mr. McLennan said the gross. receipts would total about £7000. This should leave a net" profit of about £4500, of which the Industrial Association would receive onethird.' Such a result should be' gratifying to all concerned and should enable the joint committee to establish a fund with a vi«w to providing suitable V accommodation" for 'the. growingrequirements. >-Iji general terms the exhibition could be; regarded ;as a success from every standpoint. The profit would enable the association to carry on in future ajid enable it ■ to extend the \ functions: of the exhibition so that >• they should be of real service in demonstrating what. the Dominion./ was :} capabl ;of -producing and manufacturing.
