BRAN AND POLLARD.
SUSPENSION OF ; THE DUTY. ISSUE. OF IMPORT. PERMITS. MINISTER'S ANNOUNCEMENT [BY TELEGRAPH.—SPECIAL , REPORTER.] : . WELLINGTON. .Tuesday.' ■, The ; Hon. W. ; Nosworthy, Minister for Agriculture, announced to-day that the Government has decided to suspend ; the existing duty on bran and pollard and to issue permits for importation of a limited quantity, provided that such imports are brought in before October 1, 1923. The Minister explains that the existing ' shortage of bran i and pollard appears to be due mainly to the exceptionally heavy demand caused by severe weather conditions, and is not likely to continue longer than the winter months. ; Local mills had made every endeavour to meet the demand, but still found' themselves unable to supply the full requirements. Applications for permits to import bran and pollard must be made to the Department of Industries and Commerce, Wellington.
