WKIT2 HORSE CUP TOURNEY. RODNEY: DEFEAT FRANKLIN. TWO , DRAWN GAMES. ; The White Horse Gap hockey tournament was continued yesterday ,at Remuera. w The weather was ; fine, and the grounds had hardened, although the bumpy surface made, it difficult for the ball to be easily trapped. Three keenlycontested games were decided, and play was exciting in each match. J ; The holders of the cup, Rodney, defeated Franklin by 2 goals to 0. The winners had the better of a good game, features of which were fine work by the i Rodney • forwards and fullbacks, and the Franklin fullbacks. Rodney played the more finished hockey., "' Piako : drew with Whangarei, 3 goals each, and Mangawai-Albertland drew with Thames, with a similar goal tally. -.<.' The '; position of the teams is as folows:—!|JJodney, 4 points; Piako, 3; Franklin, 2; Mangawai-Albertland, '"' 1; Thames, 1; Whangarei, 1. ■ RODNEY V. FRANKLIN. . Rodney improved from the bully, and play hung near' the opposing circle for the first few minutes. From the outset the Rodney forwards showed a good understanding among themselves, and this, coupled with excellent stopping;- and ' clearing by ;. the baaks, gave them the better of the following play. Franklin's attack along the ■ right was short-lived, »nd 4 the ball came back to the,, other end of the field. (Franklin'-. were hitting too straight : and too hard. and judioiouß play by Rodney kept up the pressure. Franklin reached the opposing circle, where too hard hitting spoiled ' the effort. Rodney attacked in a determined fashion, and the good work of their van rd was rivalled by the solid defence; of the Franklin fullbaoks. A centre movement by Franklin changed the scene of operations. Half-time came. shortly after with no score by either side. '. :; '*■£■:■-''■ " •''-:/.: .■''-■ ■■ . '. Play swung in Rodney's favour on resuming, till the Franklin right wing made a run. Tho Koalkeeper came out to clear, and from resulting play, a shot just missed. ■■. A few minutes later, Franklin were cornered, but in good style. ■ Exciting ' play in Franklin's circle brought nothing decisive, and play went to midfleld. Frarklin won ground through a free hit, but slow circle lost a chance Rodney returned to the onslaught, and made the pace a hot one. After a couple of unsuccessful shots, Rodney scored from a shot by S. Morrison. The pace livened, and •. good : hockey: was played. An accident" delayed play, and on resuming; Franklin piassed. without success. Rodney again improved, and from undecided play, the ball came out to Goertz, who scored. > Play was bustled by the Frank! lin forwards to the . other 'twenty-five, and Rodney conceded two penalty corners. No score occurred,, however, and the game ended:
