DEVONPORT MATTERS.
CHAMBER OF MERGE. Tiie annual meeting of i the Waitemata Chamber of Commerce waa' held at Devonport last ev<sning. Mr.! F. Heldt presided. The Devonport Ferry Company asked that the clock on the Victoria .Wharf, the property of the chamber., be either kept to correct time or that it be removed. It was decided "to arrange for correct time being indicated. A letter : from the Canterbury .Progress League protesting against" : the " proposed telephone charges, as indicated by the Premier in the Budget, was received the time for action having -passed. The necessity of Devonport people paying bureau fees was bitterly criticised. V: Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr. F. Heldt;: vice-president, Mr. J. Lowe; secretary.and treasurer, Mr. G. A. R. Thomas; committee, the president, vice-president, the secretary, ' and Messrs. P. N. King, T. Walsh, M. Fordham, J. James, J. W. H. Martin,' and Dr. Hagon. Mr. J no.' Hendersons-was' authorised, during his • forthcoming visit to Wellington, to press on the authorities the Question of the ? abolition ; of ; the ' telephone bureau charges levied between .Auckland and Devonport.''
