A SCROLL OF FAME.

Sir,—ln Washington, U.S.A., there is a magnificent building called the '•, "Hall of Fame." In this beautiful edifice, statues of outstanding " good " Americans are placed. This is done as a permanent tribute of appreciation by their grateful'countrymen, for the unselfish services rendered to v their country :' without any, hope of reward, by ultra-public spirited Americans. The thought .occurred to me that in a modest.way, we might emulate the method of our American cousins 1 of showing appreciation of our good " fellow-citizens. As a ; beginning, I would modestly suggest that a massive white marble "Scroll 'of Fame" be placed in our Art Gallery, and the names of good Aucklanders be deeply carved thereon in letters of gold. Auckland has been fortunately endowed ) with many splendid patriotic citizens, and something permanent expressing our keen appreciation would certainly net be considered out of place even m these utilitarian times. I feel confident that the Rotary Club would assist in the movement as outlined above. The names worthy Of a place on the Scroll of Fame could be selected by" a; very representative committee.? Should) the suggestion be approved and given effect to I would like to have the privilege of nominating Sir George Grey s name to be the first on Auckland's " Scrollu of Fame."' Pro Akabaxa.
