DREDGING WAITOA RIVER.
CONFERENCE OF BOARDS. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN / CORRESPONDENT.] TE AROHA. Saturday. . At the meeting of the Waitoa Drainage Board at Waihou this afternoon it was decided to convene a conference of the three boards interested, the Hungahunga, Elstow and Waitoa bodies, to, consider a letter received from Mr. E. Taylor,: drainage engineer for the Lands and Survey Department. . Embodied in the letter was an estimate of the cost of dredging the Waitoa River between North Road, Tahariiiii; and the Ohine Stream. ; "As you are 'J aware a channel .averaging 35ft. wide by ! 9ft. deep, has been dredged ■ from the Piako River to the . North Road," v continues -h the, letter, " and; the following estimate provides for ■ the construction >of a d-sep water I channel ,of this section from the J North Road to the Ohine Stream. For.' a distance of 190 chains the present , chainneß < will : be deepened, and , where i necessary widened and bends; eased. To eliminate the several sharp bends down stroam from the site of the proposed" Whakahoro Road Bridge a new channel 170' chains in length is required. ; The total estimated cost of this work is £7000, and provision must be made for an annual maintenance charge of £250."
