PROGRESS OF DRAINAGE. DEPUTATION TO MINISTER. [ft* rEtEQRAPn.'-bWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WELLINGTON. Saturday. * A deputation from the Hauraki Plains County Council has been in Wellington for several days interviewing Ministers and heads' of : departments in reference to various matters affecting their district. The most important matter warn the speedy construction of the Maukoro-Waitakaruru main canal, which is proceeding much too slowly in the. opinion of the settlers" especially those on the upper ; portion of the.plains, near Patetonga. ', ' ' ' Other matters affecting the district were the reclaying of the roads in Patetonga Riding • before being handed over to the county, provision of a subsidy for metalling these -roads, and also the' completion of the metalling, of the balance of the roads in the area originally opened for selection. The /Hon. W. Nosworthy and the Hon. It. F. Bollard gave the deputation a sympathetic and favourable reply to most of their requests and also gave them facilities for fully discussing ; every question with the Under-Secretary, Mr. J. :B. Thomson and the chief drainage engineer, Mr. Campbell., Many, matters in dispute wern satislactorily aajusted. ' T;.e deputation consisted of Mr. C. :Tv. Harris, representing" the council, and Messrs. Mayn and McLaughlin, representing the settlers, and it was introduced by Messrs. H. Poland and T. W. Rhodes M.P.'s. . : . '
