STOCKS AND SHARES.

There was a fair amount of activity on the Auckland sharemarket yesterday. In New Zealand Government securities buy. brs of War Loans, 1938 and 1939, were offering £96 ss, but there were no sellers. For the 1930 issue buyers at £96 met with no response. The 1927 issue had demand at £98 ss, sellers £98 10s. Soldiers' Loan bonds were looked for at £101 12s 6d, and 5£ per cent, inscribed stock in the same loan at £101 10s, no holders quoting. New Zealand Inscribed Stock, 1938 and 1939, bad inquiry at £96 ss, sellers asking £96 10s. The 1927 issue was sought at £98 ss, no sellers responding. The 1927-41 issue had demand at £96. 10s, sellers holding for £98 10s. Industrial debentures had good demand, but there- were no transactions. In banks Australasias were ' wanted at £13 lis, sellers £13 16s. For New South Wales £40 was offered and for P. and O.'s £14 10s, no sellers quoting. New Zealands at 63s had buyers at 62s 3d. Unions at £15 had buyers at £14 17s 6d. In insurance? New Zealands changed bands at 31s 6d, more being wanted at 31s, sellers 31s 9d. Nationals at 82s had inquiry at Bls. South British were looked for at 41s 3d, sellers 42s 6d. In shipping HuddartParkers (ord.) sold at 44s 6d. Miscellaneous lines had fair demand at late rates, and Wilsons Cements changed hands at 28s. No business was done in mining shares. Waihis were held at 26s 3d, buyers 265. Grand Junctions at 7s were sought at 6s 9d.
