THE LEAGUE GAME.

MATCHED FOE TO-DAY.

The club championship competitions under the auspices of foe Auckland Rugby League, will be continued this afternoon, weaker and state of grounds permitting. Tfc* senior championship competition is at present in an interesting stego, and the matches to-day should create still further interest. The principal matches in the senior League championship contest are: City against Newton, on No. 1 ground at Carlaw Park; Dsvonport vers™ Richmond, on No. 2 ground at Carlaw Park, and the match between Athletic and Ponsonby at Oiahuhu, on No. I ground, These matches should furnish fine football, close and interesting games being anticipated. •

The junior championship competition under the League code will also be resinned this afteraoon.

THE RUGBY QAME.

CUP FINAL AND CHAMPIONSHIPS.

The -club championship competition under the auspices of the Auckland Rugby Union, will be continued to-day. The principal contest in the senior championship this afternoon is of special interest, as it is the cup final between Grafton and Maris! Brothers' Old Boys which teams are leading for the championship. The match to-day on No. 1 ground at Eden Park, will decide tho champion club team for the season. Both club teams will be strongly represented, and a great game is anticipated in the final. The contest should be a real contest in modem forward play, as both Grafton and Marist Brothers are represented by powerful packs of forwards, which, on the heavy ground, should be seen to special advantage- The back;., of the teams are also good, and a fine all-round exhibition of Rugby to decide the championship should "be witnessed. The other senior matches are, Ponsonby versus Grammar Old Boys, on No. 2 ground at Eden Park; North Shore versus Suburbs, on No. 3 ground at Eden Park. Consequent on sickness falling on members of the tiaras, the match University versus College) Rifles arranged for the Showground to-day has been cancelled. The junior championship competition will also be continued to-day. With fine weather and dry grounds, good games should be recorded. Th& following rearrangements have been made:— Third Grade, B Section.—Eden B v. Grafton. Domain No. 4, 1.30 p.m., Mr, Longville; University v. Marist, Showground No. 2, 1.45 p.m., Mr. Hall. The following games have been cancelled on account of several of the players having influenzas—St. Stephen's Collego v.. Training College, Ellerslie v. Ponsonby. Fifth Grade.—Eden defaults to Grey Lynn. BEFEBEES" REAPPOINTMENTS. i Owing to f'he outbreak of influenza several alterations have been necessary in referees' appointments for to-day. Mr. Vowkr fakes Mr. Moffat'* place ,%i St. Heliers; Mr. Norton replaces Mr. Potter at Avf-ndalo, at 2.15 p.m., Grafton v. Suburbs, and A.M.O. v. City Council, at Avondale. At the Domain, Mr. Campben will act in place of Mr. Brewer, Epsom v. St- James', 1.30 p.m.. and D.R.Y.M.I. v. S*.' David's, at. 2.30 p.m. Mr. Blastopore acts in Mr., Thomas' place at Avondale in the match Suburbs v. Eden, at 2.15, and Eden B v. Grafton at 2.15 p.m. THE ASSOCIATION GAME. TO-DAY'S MATCHES. SEMI-FINAL CHATHAM CUP. Probably never before in the history of the kame in Auckland did such great interest attach to an Association club match as that of this afternoon on No. 1, Victoria Park, between Northcote and H.M.S. Philomel; On the result of this match depends the championship honours for 1923, and the honour of representing Auckland in the* Chatham Cup contest, which is a competition open for all clubs of the Dominion, and run on the same lines as the English football cup. Given fine weather, a great exposition of the code with a record attendance of spectators' should result.

The other raatchss in the rsnior competition are Harbour Board versus North Shore at Devonport, while at the Auckland Domain, 3rotherhood j>lay Y.M.&A., and ' Ponsonby meet Thistle. These contests should also be productive of good football between evenly-matched teams, but Victoria Park is sure to prove the centre of attraction. On the various grounds the junior competitions will be advanced another stage.

AKARANA YACHT CLUB.

The Akarana Yacht Club •mil hold its annual smoke concert and presentation of prizes in the Masonic Hall, Princes Street, this evening. A feature of the evening will be the musical programme, which nas been ■ arranged by Messrs. P. Payne (orchestral) and S. Pritchard (vocal). Among the trophies to be presented are the Lipton and Dunning cups. In addition to holding the Lipton Cup for 12 months, Mr. V. Lidgard, owner of the Marie, will receive a framed enlarged photograph of the trophy from the Akarana Club.
