THE STRAND THEATRE.

MARY PICKFORD'S NEW FILM.

Mary Pickford's " Tess of the Storm Country," now being screened at the Strand Theatre, is not the old " Tess " revived, but an entirely new produceion with all the modern methods of photography, lighting, etc. Moreover it ,is a more experienced actress who interprets the title-role, an actress v&o has been unspoiled by her universal popularity, and who seems more. lovable in the part of the untaught fisher-givl than in any she has registered. She certainly never had a more excellent vehicle for j the exploitation of her natural and dramatic talents. She makes Tess so real that the spectator lives with Tess through' the troublous months that■\ire supposed I to pass, as the film-play is unreeled/ I utterly taken up with the ! fate :of this ! girl who dominates the action;" Mary Pickford has. intensely -human moments in the picture, and in these she displays a depth of feeling which would scarcely have been; suspected in her, ; Judging by the contrasted scampering and skipping of the girl in hes moments, and her spirited t trn<?uleiic<i -when,' aroused by' her enemies to rebellion and battle. For many reasons ''Tess of the Storm Country " will be welcomed as one .of the great productions of motion-picture history. It is incomparably better than the original - version, and is the star's best achievement!:, Tess has as > many sides to her character as a diamond has flashes of brilliancy, and in : each the artist : is equal to he; task. She - presents one of the most beautiful characters imaginable, the centre of the story that will charm and interest all who witness it. Also cm the programme is a comedy, " The-Nidk-of-Time Hero," introducing, some clever children and equally clever animals.
