RHEIMS CATHEDRAL.

SLOW WORK OF RESTORATION

COST ESTIMATED AT £1,500,000

A. and N.Z.

PARIS, July 17.

It is estimated that unless further funds be received it will take 50 years to restore the Rheims Cathedral. It will cost 112,000,000 francs {£1,500,000 at.the present rate of exchange) to repair the damage. • Two million francs have been expended yearly since the armistice, but the work has been confined to clearing away the wreckage to make way for new construction. It is expected that the great nave will be restored in two years, upon which work will be commenced in the tower.
