The principal match in the senior j hockey championship competition on 1 Saturday, between Somervell and St. Lake's, attracted a large number of ' hook<ty enthusiasts to the Remnera | grounds, aid the form displpyed was par- •, tigularly good. . Somervell finally J I triumphed by 1 goal to 0, and on the run ;I of the play they \ thoroughly. deserved i i their victory. Their prospects of annex- • ; ing the senior championship appear very bright, Tho feature, of the play was the excellent work of the backs of both sides, | ; many • promising forward rushes breaking , i down through good tackling and excelj lent speculating. The players of most ' prominence for Somervell were E. Watts, I C. Watts, and Claudett in the forwards, ! and Roberts and Baildon in the backs, i. Outstanding players in the St. Luke's , van were Garrard and Williams, and in | the rearguard Steele and Howe were ' towers of strength. , University's display, except in the first 15 minutes, was first class, backs and forwards working well in conjunction and the ' team work being of a, high ; order. Arcta commenced well, but subsequently became disorganised by the i tactics of their opponents. Players of note for . University were Hume, Harman, and Clayton, while of the Areta players the more promising v displays were given by L. Carter, J. Carter, and England.
