RURAL BANK'S FAILURE.
HEAVY LOSSES IN DENMARK. When the Landmandsbank in September last was reconstructed with State and other aid, its losses were roughly estimated at 185 million crowns, . says the Copenhagen correspondent of the Morning Post. It has now, however, been ascertained that the losses amount. to 232 million crowns, and as the bank, though its present " daily business is- ; quite satisfactory, has not been able to prevent the withdrawal of deposits, and its position therefore has not improved, the ; Government has brought m a Bill under which the State, for seven years,' will guarantee all legal claims or. the bank, : whether by creditors or depositors. ; The Government in this way hopes to allay public excitement and to avoid the -much greater losses which would result from liquidation. Therti is hardly any J doubt but that' the Rigsdag will agree to the guarantee, ttti in what form is doubtful. ;■
