MEANING OF HOLIDAY PAY.

COURT'S DECISION / SOUGHT.

[BY TELEGRAPH. — ASSOCIATION. J WELLINGTON. Thursday. Application was made to the Arbitration Court to-day by the Cooks and Stewards' Union for an' interpretation of clause 23 of the Cooks and Stewards Award. The union secretary said clause 23 provided that a worker was entitled to 14 days' holiday on full pay, and the question arose whether full pay meant consideration must be given to three factors of cash, wages, food and lodging. On behalf of the Union Steam Ship Company it was maintained that not by any stretch of imagination could board and lodging be included, that the provision in question' was identical with that inserted in awards covering master# and officers for Rime years, and in the Seamen's and Firemen's Awards also. In ! no instance had ever a claim such as the present one been put forward. The Court said that as the point involved affected a large number of people, it would give a written decision.
