THE POSTER BALL.

—As a visitor to Auckland I must heartily endorse your remarks regarding the success of the Poster Ball. On all sides I hear folks express regret that they were unable to be present to witness the brilliant spectacle. I ( believe I am voicing the sentiments of quite a large number in expressing the hope that the Carnival Committee can see its way clear to repeat the ball. I know that each evening this week is fully occupied with other events connected with the carnival, but if the week" could be extended until Monday a repeat performance of the Poster Ball would add a fitting finale to the energetic endeavours of the promoters. Will the Carnival Committee respond to this general desire? Roystqn.

SIR JOSEPH WARD'S INTENTIONS.

Sir,—ls Sir Joseph Ward's big secret " the elective executive." He says ne does not aspire to the Liberal leadership and will not follow Mr Wilford. He speaks of placing his experience at the service of the country, but does not talk .fusion. His suggestion that there "would have to be conferences of members appears to point to the elective executive as his substitute for an appeal to the coUnry in the event of his winning the Tauranga seat. Is there some arrangement made or pending by which the Liberal and Labour sections of the House (perhaps with the assistance of one or two "brainy" Reformers), will legislate for this change, carrying the measure in the face of Reform opposition and then allotting portfolios in proportion to the strength of the parties ? P. A. Semblt.
