THE GRAMMAR SCHOOLS.
ORDERS FOR APPARATUS.
The Auckland Grammar School Board met yesterday, the chairman, Professor A. P. W. Thomas, presiding. There were also present: Dr. E. Roberton, Professor H. W. Segar, Messrs. «f. H. Upton, 0. E. Nicholson, J. Stanton, S. I. Crookes, A. Burns, and G. Brownlee. The Education Department wrote stating, that orders for next year's scientific apparatus and material should be placed with the department before May, 1923, for purchase. The chairman remarked that the matter was another instance of curtailment of the board's liberty at the hands of the department. . The scheme would involve delay and expense. It was decided to ask the department if the board could not order its scientific apparatus from the firms direct. The headmaster' of the Mount Albeit School, Mr. F. W. Gamble, reported that Mr. A. W. Jeavons had offered £3 3s for a junior athletic cup, while Mr. A. F. Bennett had offered an annual gift of £2 2s for . some suitable purpose. The gifts were accepted with thanks. .■!"
