MEAT EXPORT TRADE.

OUTLOOK NOT PROMISING.

SUPPLIES AND PRESENT VALUES, "None too promising" was the opinion expressed yesterday by an expert in regard 'to the outlook in the export beef trade. Apparently 20s per 1001b. is about the present price, and it is said to be difficult to conclude business even at this figure. The export market is described as "very flat," and apparently the month of Ju M will be a very bad one in Great Britain for all classes of frozen meat. The ex. planation is that from much nearer the' centres of consumption large supplies of beef will be available, thus diminishing the demand for beef from the distant oversea suppliers. Butchers in the Dominion may be inclined to purchase beef at about 20s per 1001b., but it is a question whether they will be able to absorb the amount of prime beef that is now coming forward. A rumour was circulated from Wanganui recently that outside operators were making forward delivery* contracts at 27» 6d per 1001b., that price to last throughout the winter. From the stock-raisers' point of view it is unfortunate that there is no support for such an optimistic forecast. The explanation of the rumour is that some time ago one lot of stock was offered at Wanganui at the price mentioned, but no business resulted,, and certainly is not likely to result. .'.;;■'
