CHARGE OF MURDER.
DEATH OF CONTRACTOR.
SCENE OF TRAGEDY VISITED. [BY TEtEGBAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Tuesday In connection with the trial at the Supreme * Court of John Tuhi, charged with the murder of his employer, Herbert Henry Knight, contractor, the jury visited the scene of the tragedy to-day. When the case was resumed before Mr. Justice Chapman, a bank clerk gave evidence as to Knight's account. The last cheque drawn was dated October, 1922. The deceased usually cashed his own cheques. A domestic servant gave evidence that the deceased was a man of sober habits. He always slept on a couch. She said his age would be about 45. He was without enemies. Knight was in pood health when she left in 1921. His "farm at Johnsonville was very lonely, especially in the evenings. Deceased was of a very reticent nature. Few people came to see him. * A former employee, who worked for Knight before Tuhi, said he left because he did not know much about cows. The deceased was not a good " payer." They never had a quarrel. He left Knight on the best of terms. Witness confidently expected to get the money due to him later. He had been arrested in connection with the case, but was subsequently released. Mr Macassey, the Crown Prosecutor, said the man had not been arrested. He had no money and the police gave him a bed at the station. He was asked at the station to give information on the matter. The man had not been off the place where he worked in October. Leigh ton, a neighbour of deceased, said he wanted some eggs. Tuhi said Knight was not at home. Later Knight appeared. When Knight disappeared witness accused Tuhi of knowing where he was. This Tuhi denied. The case was not concluded. .
