ATTACK ON SPEED RECORD.
WELLINGTON TO AUCKLAND. MOTORISTS' ATTEMPT TO-DAY An attempt to lower the motor-car speed record between Wellington and Auckland wjll be made to-day by Mr. George L. Campbell and Mr. Leslie F. Bedford in a Durant car. The time fixed for the departure from Wellington was three o'clock this morning, and in order to eclipse the {•resent record of 16 hours 7 minutes estabished by Mr. W. S. Miller in a Chandler car the Auckland post office will have to be reached before 7.7 o'clock this evening. The route to be followed will be via Foxton to Wanganui, through Taranaki to Awakino. across to Te Kuiti and then to Auckland. The roads should be in exceptionally good condition after the proi longed dry Bp<t!l, and if the weather coni tinues fine the motorists should have everything in their favour.
