CONGREGATIONAL UNION.
SERVICES IN CHURCHES.
UNVEILING OF MEMORIAL.
The services in the Congregational churches in the city and suburbs yesterday were of a special nature, in view of the fact that the annual conference of the New Zealand Congregational Union is now being held in Auckland.
There was a very large attendance at the Mount Eden church in the morning, when a stained glass windqw, erected in memory of men from tho church who gave their lives in the great war, was unveiled. The window is a reproduction of Sir Noel Paton'a famous painting, " Lux in tenebris," and beneath it is a brass tablet on which 17 names are inscribed. The unveiling ceremony was performed by Mr. J. P. Hooton. The Rev. J. Reed Glasson, of Wellington, delivered an appropriate address, and the Revs. Stewart Wright, W. M. Holland, H. J. Huffadine, and Harry Johnson also took part in the service. Mr. J. W. Shackelford, Mayor of Mount Eden, and members of the borough council were present. The Rev. T. Wilson Potts, chairman of the union, preached at the Beresford Street, church in the morning. Tf.o delegates were entertained at a harbour excursion on Saturday afternoon. The party landed on Rangitoto Island, where afternoon tea, provided by the Auckland Congregational Young Men's League, was served. During the trip boys from St. Stephen's School gave a programme of entertainment.
