AUSTRALIAN PAYMENT. CONFERENCE OF WOMEN. [fbosi OUR own CORRESPONDENT.! f SYDNEY. Much 1. An All-Australian Women's Con- r ference, to bo held in Melbourne* this month, will have An important bearing upon the fate of the Federal baby boras. A genuine endeavour will be made to ascertain the opinions of the majority of women in Australia on the subject, and to find out whether they are satisfied with the present payment of £5 after the , baby is born, or whether they think that the £750,000 annually disbursed in this manner by the Federal Government could be utilised to more real advantage for the mother and child. All opinions are desired, as it is expected that all classes of the community will be represented. The conference will not be under the auspices of the national councils of 'r : women, but since the national councils had the machinery in proper working order for summoning a genuinely Com- ,;?* monwealth representation, the Melbourne ; £ executive was asked to undertake the-v:-,;. task, and is at present occupied in tha ' work of inviting all women's organisations, throughout Australia to send one delegpU to the conference. ;
