SHIPPING DIFFICULTIES.
INTER-ISLAND SERVICE. COMPLAINTS OF INADEQUACY. The difficulty in regard to shipping goods to various ports in New Zealand was criticised at the annual conference of the United Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association yesterday. One member pointed out that there was a haphazard arrangement in regard to the shipping of goods from the North to the South Island. One never knew in the South when it was possible to get goods through to the North. In the old days there was a cargo steamer service twice a week, but that was not running at present. Great dissatisfaction was expressed in the South Island regarding this. Mr. R. Wilson said he had sent goods from Wellington to Timarb and it had taken three weeks for them to reach their destination, due to the steamer being diverted to Bluff and returning to Timaru by a way port. , _ The chairman,' Mr. A. Thomson, said commercial travellers bad a lot Jto thank the companies for. On his motion •it was resolved that the shipping companies and their , staffs be thanked for the kindness and consideration shown to the. members, particularly as regards their certificates.
