SLOW MAIL TRAINS.
NEED FOR IMPROVEMENT.
For jfthe past two years the. Taranaki Chamber of Commerce, supported by other provincial chambers, has been endeavouring to, speed up the mail train. Last week, Mr. • T. C. List, president of the Taranaki Chamber, interviewed the Minister for Railways and the general manager, representing the. need for effecting, a speedy improvement in the train service. He was . assured that the difficulties in tho ' way were now being overcome and lhat a new service would be commenced early in "April. It is understood that the journey will, at first be cut down by nearly an hour, and later it is hoped to make a further reduction in time. The train will leave New Ply. mouth shortly' ; after 8 a.m., instead of 7.20, being preceded by a slow train picking up passengers . at the small stations. Mail ana steamer connections will be fairly assured under the new time-table. »>"-•.■' S.'-::' • •v ; ;: ; .--' , .. ; '. '•■■:■->
