INFLUENCE IN ELECTIONS.
(BEATEN ASPIRANT'S CHARGE

Tho Washington:.-correspondent of tho New York Times states that formal charges against Ku Klux Klan were filed with the Senate when Mr. George Peddy, a defeated. candidate in the Texas Senatorial election, placed with the Upper House documents alleging that the Sena-tor-elect, Mr. Earl May field, was illegally elected. Mr. Peddy charges the Ku Klux Klaai with being a party to fraudulent pnd reprehensible measures taken to defeat him in the election for the Senate seat. The documents charge the Ku Klux Klan with many serious crimes in Texas, where it is alleged they qre wielding vast political, governmental, social and religious powers for its own ends and breeding disrespect for duly-constituted authority. Mr. Peddy has also filed contest papers asking the new Senate to unseat Mr. Mayfield. . The case promises to assume the aspects of a great controversy.
