Thorn- ; son; headmaster of the Te One School, who -was in charge of the party from the Chatham Islands' schools which recently > visited Canterbury, thus describes the ■ apj ■ 'jjt rival of the party in a letter to a Christchurch resident: -i-S "We had a' splendid passage down. There was general regret among ; the r scholars at leaving New Zealand, and expressions of disinclination to spend the l lives on the Chathams. The residents came out in force meet the steamer everybody' was eager to hear all the news 1 :' " at first hand. Tongues started to ' wag before the surf boat was within hailing^g distance. The scholars who were to h*'' e been ;of the 5 party but were left behind.. , were, very naturally, much concerned .r----when they heard of all that their mates had seen and heard.
