FRANKTON REFRESHMENT.

Sir, — noticed an article in Monday's ! Herald under the heading of "Hungry ! Travellers," referring to the lack of reI freshments on Sunday mornings at FrankI ton Junction. As one who has judged ! both sides of the question broad-mindedly I I wish to vindicate the officials in charge ! of the refreshment rooms and at the same ! time give a small amount of credit and ! sympathy to the young girls who work in the said '-rooms, v- These toilers, of i the weaker sex, look forward to the > coming of Saturday night with relief, for thin, and then only, can they slumber without a break. Three mornings of the week they awaken to the needs of the travelling public at the unearthly hour of 2 a.m. Previous to this they do ■ their ordinary day's toil. - The remaining, three days they work till 4 p.m. and continue from 8 p.m. till 11.30 p.m. -Is it , any wonder the* rooms closq. for once . a week ? To provide for this and still meet with the public's requirements, the ■ officials have opened 'up Mercer once a week, which is a run of a little , over an hour .from Frankton. Surely passengers can, wait that short while. _ If the hungry travellers would only meditate a bit they would surely not begrudge these young toiler® of the refreshment rooms their well-earned recreation. " , • John May.
