Tennis, and Croquet Clubs opened tSeiffe respective playing grounds, after the official opening of the Alley Memorial Park. A few months ago Mr. William : Alley, of Hikutaia,' presented to the town a, .' : ?j*S| tion;of Zif acres of land close to j the ship and partly surrounded by the Hiraijpß taia stream. "The land was given :lofl*m& domain site. • ;■ The gift was not long in the hands of the townsfolk before the work of making.it into a domain was commenced. An onergetic ' committee have had the matter ill hand, . and on Saturday over 400 people were present to witness the official opening of the playing grounds. , . .- . Mr. Alley, the donor of the park, and the president of the Bowling Club, welcomed the. visitors, while.Mrs. Alley thttf-, the first jack and opened the "green. Nfll M. C. Smith started play on the tennis , courts, while the ceremony of opening the v , croquet green was carried out by Mr*. Avery. _________ ••'...';.
