PAYMENT FOR ABILITY.
AN EMPLOYER'S VIEWPOINT.
A discussion arose at the biograpli operators' dispute before a conciliation council in Wellington on Hie subjcct, of payment for service accord i-tg to the ability of the servant. Mr Wood, a union delegate, stated that he saw across the table representatives of the employers who had recognised, financially, service above the average. Mr. Shortt (employers): "That is where the trouble lies. When we recognise a good man by giving him something more than another employee, the other' comes forward and demands exactly the same salary, and we get demands for salaries such as we have before us to-day.
