UNION WITH ALLIANCE.

POSITION OF P. AND T.

"A very danr?rous movement has been ' oil' foot to induce the public servants in certain departments to ally themselves to an avowedly revolutionary organisation— Alliance of Labour— a special attack was made on the Tost and Telegraph Officers' Association," states the executive of tho Wellington Welfare League in its annual report. "We need not enlarge on the gravity ' of this attempt to bring our public utilities under the control of an organisation whose doclared aim is to introduce Soviet '' rule into this country and secure the control of all public and private activities by the workers who operate them. Apart from this, however, the league maintains that the Public Service should not be allowed to link itself up with any organisation formed for sectional purposes; it should be entirely free to carry on the public utilities without risk of becoming involved in purely sectional disputes. In the case of, the Post. and. Telegraph Association'' a ballot . declared for the alliance, and the league-worked up such public opposition to the proposal that it has remained in abeyance and appears to have been dropped. 'We feel it our duty, however, to warn our members that it may revive again, in which case it must be fought • vigorously, and it is to bo hoped that the Government will legislate in the direction of making such alliance impossible." •
