TWO MINE DISASTERS.
CANADIAN PIT EXPLOSION. 25 BODIES RECOVERED. 160 WORKERS ESCAPE'. By Telegraph— Association— Copyright. A. and N.Z.' VANCOUVER, Feb. 8. An explosion, attended by disastrous results, occurred in the Cumberland mine, Vancouver Island, to-day. < The explosion wrecked a large portion of the mine and caused heavy loss of life. Twenty-five bodies have been recovered, and 10 men are still underground. In the hospital are one dying and five severely injured. The cause of the explosion was defective wiring of a driller. The other parts of the mine were undamaged, and 160 men escaped.

Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 3.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Feb. .10. ■ Thirty-two bodies have been recovered from the mine at Dawson, New Mexico, where an explosion . occurred: on Friday. The miners who were entombed are unharmed. They , made their way out of the mine, meeting the rescue party at the tunnelling entrance. The men stood in one spot all night waiting till the gas cleared. They declared that they had no knowledge of the fate of the others working near by.
