Figures of the dairy division of the Agricultural Department show that the quantity of. salted butter graded for January, 1923, was 177,199cwt., and unsalted 7108cwt., compared with 135,106cwt. for January of last year, an increase of 36.41 per cent. For the six months ended January, 1923, the respective quantities were 841,861cwt. and 55,701cwt., compared, with 633,991cwt., an increase -. of 41.57 per cent. Cheese graded for January, 1923, comprised: White 141,401cwt., coloured 75,965cwt., compared with 202,693cwt. for January, 1922, an increase of 7.23 per cent. The totals for the six months ended January, 1923, were: White 426",087cwt., coloured 238,923cwt., compared with 716,558cwt., a decrease of 7.19 per cent. Converting these figures into a butterfat equivalent, there is an increase of 24.85 per, cent, in butter-fat production for six month's as compared with the corresponding period of 1921-22. The department has received information to the effect that Mr. J. .A. - Buddick, dairy and cold storage commissioner for Canada, will arrive in New Zealand by the Niagara on February 16. Mr. Ruddick was dairy commissioner in New Zealand for a period during 1898 to 1900.
