WHANGAREI AFFAIRS.
WINTER SHOW BUILDING.
The Whangarei'Chamber of Commerce last evening earned a motion supporting any reasonable effort on the part of the telephone department ;to • place ' its business on a commercial basis, but suggesting that the new scale of charges should be set out rather more specifically, and in tabular form, so that it could be more easily understood. The chamber accorded support to a request to the Justice Department that provision be made for more frequent sittings of the Magistrate's Court, and also decided to request the Police Department to appoint more constables in the district. A deputation was received from the Whangarei Winter Show. ■ Committee urging that business people give the annual show their moral support. The possibility, of erecting a suitable building for the show was discussed, and- a motion was passed supporting the committee in its efforts to make progress, also recommending it to'bring a sound proposal for the financing of the building, and 'asking the support of the people in raising the money by gifts, debentures, or loans.
