RAILWAY CONNECTIONS.
BAY OF PLENTY NEEDS.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. TAURANGA, Tuesday. A special ■ meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held last night.
The chairman of the Auckland Railways and Development, League wrote* relative to making an effort to get the £5000 voted for the Paeroa.-Pokeno section of railway lino spent before the vote lapsed on March 31 next. The chamber decided that a letter in support of the expenditure be sent to the Minister for Public Works.
It was unanimously agreed to write to the Minister for Public Works asking when tenders were to be called for the proposed contract in connection with V-Tuapiro-Tauranga section of the East Coast railway.
It was decided to write to ,the New Zealand Shipping Company asking for information as to why goods could not be shipped right through from west, of England ports into Tauranga. . A letter was read from the secretary of the Harbour- Board iii reply to representations from the chamber, advising that the questions of the construction of a railway ' wharf at Tauranga, and also a wharf at the Mount, had , been referred to the engineer for a report. , >
